DIY Starbucks Holiday Christmas Cup Ornament 2019

There’s just something so magical about the arrival of the iconic red Starbucks Holiday Christmas Cup. For me, it’s one of the first signs that Christmas is right around the corner.

I wanted to commemorate this iconic holiday cup and what better way to do that than in ornament form?!

The best part? This project is SO easy that your kids could do it… with your help and supervision, of course!

Hang on to your Starbucks, ’cause we’re about to get crafty…

MATERIALS:

5oz. paper Dixie Cups

Red Paint – I used the Gloss 20415E Red Gloss paint by Apple Barrel

Extra Fine Glitter (Red / Ruby, Green / Emerald, Gold / 24 Karat)

Spray Foam – Large Gaps Foam by GE

Ornament Hooks by Holiday Time

Sticker Paper (8.5″ x 11″)

Green Straw

Elmers Glue

Hot Glue Gun

Craft Stick / Popsicle Stick

Scissors

Paint Brush

Grocery Bag / Paper Bag

INSTRUCTIONS:

Step 1 – Paint the Dixie cups red. 1 coat does the trick, the glitter added in a later step will cover any design that’s showing through. Wait until thoroughly dry before moving on to the next step.

Step 2 –  Paint on a thin coat of Elmers glue.

Step 3 – While the glue is still wet, cover the exterior of the cup in an extra fine red glitter. Wait until thoroughly dry before moving on to the next step.

Step 4 – Stuff a grocery bag or paper bag into the bottom of the cup prior to filling with foam. This step allows you to make the spray foam stretch further.

Step 5 – With the nozzle pointed down in the cup, start SLOWLY spraying the foam while moving the nozzle in a circle.

IMPORTANT: This foam will grow 2-3x the original size. LESS IS MORE!

Step 6 – Take a craft stick and start sculpting the foam into the shape you want it to be.

Step 7 – Sprinkle gold / 24 karat (or any color you’d like) extra fine glitter to the still wet foam.

Step 8 – Trim the green straw to approximately 3″, Paint a thin coat of Elmers glue onto the straw and then cover with green/emerald extra fine glitter.

IMPORTANT: Be sure to insert the straw into the foam while the foam is still wet. The foam will dry / harden around the straw and secure it into place.

Step 9 – Print out the Starbucks logo (download at the bottom of this page) on to 8.5″ x 11″ sticker paper, cut out, and apply to the front of the cup.

Step 10 – After the foam fully cures, spray a clear sealant over the entire ornament. Wait until fully dry before moving on to the next step.

Step 11 – Hot glue the ornament hook to the top of the foam.
